SORBENT MATERIALS

Sorbents are hydrophobic/oleophilic materials that absorb animal, mineral, and vegetable oils and similar oil-based substances. ABASCO offers two basic kinds of sorbents: natural fiber Miracle Sorb® sorbent and polypropylene sorbents. All our sorbents can be used at temperatures between freezing and 180° F and can be stored indefinitely at ambient conditions.

Miracle Sorb biodegradable sorbent is used primarily on land. Polypropylene sorbents, which attract oil and repel water, can be used on both land and water to reclaim 20 times their own weight in oil. After use, sorbents can be incinerated (3 to 5% ash). Polypropylene sorbents can also be wrung and reused.

Miracle Sorb® Biodegradable Sorbent

Miracle Sorb is a high-performance, biodegradable mulch made from specially processed sugar cane bagasse fibers. It is used primarily on land to absorb and permanently encapsulate all hydrocarbon liquids, including oil, acetone, solvents, and paints. >More

Sorbent Rolls

ABASCO sorbent rolls are made of the same polypropylene material as our pads and can be used in the same situations. Sorbent rolls are very effective in areas where they can be spread out, such as along river banks, on the perimeter of oil pits, and in equipment workshops to pick up leaked oil.

Sorbent Booms

Sorbent booms and sweeps are usually deployed on water. They are most effective in calm water situations, where they can be deployed and recovered with minimal turbulence.

Petro Pals

ABASCO Petro Pals are small mops made of loose polypropylene fibers that can pick up 30 times their weight in viscous oils. They are virtually inert and work very well in strong acids and alkalis. Petro Pals can be deployed by hand and recovered with a rake for incineration. They can also be fastened to a rope for use as a shoreline recovery system. Petro Pals are packed ten to a 5-lb, 0.75 cu. ft. bag.
